Queen of Cups is a print inspired by the Queen of Cups card in tarot. In tarot cards, water is a symbol of emotions. In the modern Rider Waite-Smith deck, the Queen of Cups card is a representation of a woman who can master her inner emotions, her intuition, and her emotional environment. The print I created depicts a full-figured muse that upholds that emotion. The concept of the subject holding a portal of water above her head represents being able to fully hold this body of emotion. It’s a symbol of mastering the emotional realm. I wanted to create a figure that had the stylized lines of traditional engravings and a moiré style of undulating water.
